结果状语从句

结果状语从句是表示事态结果的从句，通常主句是原因，从句是结果，整句话的主题含义我们还是看主句。在结果状语从句中，常用来做引导词的有：so that, such that,以及so…that和such…that。结果状语从句表示结果，通常位于主句之后。

一、So…that（如此...以致于...）

So 本身是副词，其后主要接形容词或者副词，其结构为：

So + adj. / adv. + that +结果状语从句

So + adj. + a/ an + 可数名词单数+that+结果状语从句

例：

1、他很年轻。

He is young.

他不能参军。

He cannot join the army.

改进：

他如此的年轻以至于不能参军。

He is so young that he cannot join the army.

TIPS：

so可以与表数量的形容词连用，如：many, much, few, little, 然后再接名词， 如 so many flowers, so many beautiful flowers, so much fun, so little care等，此时不能用such。

例：The neighbors were making so much noise last night that I didn’t sleep a wink.

昨晚我的邻居弄的噪音那么大以至于我一晚上都没合眼。

二、Such…that（如此...以致于...）

Such 是一个形容词，其后面要接名词，而且可以直接加名词。具体来说，such后面可以接单数可数名词，如such a house, such a day; 可以接复述可数名词，如such boys， such cars； 可以接不可数名词，如such patience， such weather。 当名词有形容词修饰时，具体结构如下：

Such a/ an + adj. + 可数名词单数 +that+结果状语从句

或 Such + adj. + 可数名词复数/ 不可数名词+that+结果状语从句

例：

1、这是如此的一个房子。

This is such a house.

这是如此的一个贵房子。

This is such an expensive house.

我买不起。

改进：

I cannot afford it.

这是一个如此贵的房子以至于我买不起。

TIPS:

虽然我们不能说such many, such much 或 such few, 但我们可以说many such dogs, much such attention, few such cars。因为：首先由such修饰名词，比如：such cars；然后再由这些表示数量的形容词修饰such，于是便有了many such cars。 其他可以用在such前面的限定词有： no, other, some, any, one等。

例：They used “splendid” “magnificent” and other such expressions to describe the King’s new clothes.

他们用“太棒了”“好极了”和其他类似的词来形容皇帝的新衣。

三、so that 表结果

so that 引导结果状语从句位于主句之后，翻译为“以至于”，例如：

例：

1、天气寒冷。

It was very cold.

河水结冰了。

The river froze.

改进：

天气寒冷以至于河水都结冰了。

It was very cold, so that the river froze.

四、such that 表结果

在such that引导的目的状语从句中， such就相当于“so+形容词”，具体用什么形容词要根据上下文来判断。

请比较：

1) His anger was such that he lost control of himself.

2)　His anger was so explosive that he lost control of himself.

我们看到例句1) 中的such在语义上相当于so explosive， 这里的explosive用来修饰名词anger。所以我们可以把例句1) 改写成2)。
